Car History by Frank Hicks

Chicago Aurora & Elgin 319
Car 321 was one of six wood cars built by Jewett for the CA&E. Originally fitted with primitive GE 66 motors, 319 was one of three of the series rebuilt in 1922. The cars acquired more modern GE 254 motors, newer electrical controls and brakes, but were still wired to train with the line's other wood cars. Car 319 was rebuilt in the early 1950's, when it had its windows rebuilt and exterior stained-glass covered over. The car was acquired by Gerald Brookins in 1962 for his Trolleyville museum line in Olmsted Falls, Ohio, and operated there for nearly forty years. Following the sale of the Olmsted Falls property, the car was moved to Cleveland in May 2006 and stored on the rapid transit system as part of the Lake Shore Electric museum collection. That project fell through and in October 2010 car 319 was sold to IRM. Moved to Illinois that December, the car was repainted and returned to operation. It is one of five cars of this series to survive.
