Descr:The AE&C was created to build a high-speed interurban line from Chicago to Wheaton, Elgin, Geneva, Batavia, and Aurora. The line opened in 1902. Streetcar lines in and between the terminal cities were also under common ownership. The AE&C went bankrupt in 1919 after which the interurban lines were reorganized in 1922 as the Chicago Aurora & Elgin and the streetcar system was reorganized in 1923 as the Aurora Elgin & Fox River Electric.
