Descr:SSRT was the first elevated railroad to run through Chicago, with its first line opening as a steam-hauled operation in 1892. The line ran from downtown to 39th St, extending to Jackson Park in 1893. The line electrified in 1898 using newly-designed MU control. The Kenwood, Stockyards, and Normal Park branches were built in 1907 and 1908. In 1913 operations fell under the control of the Chicago Elevated Railroad.
