| Descr: | CIR was created in 1920 by the Van Sweringen brothers when they electrified the railroad from Cleveland to their planned community of Shaker Heights. A direct connection to Cleveland Union Terminal opened in 1930. In 1944 the financially weak line was taken over by Shaker Heights Rapid Transit, a public agency owned by the City of Shaker Heights.
